    Burnley Club House

    The Official Opening of the Burnley Club House was held on the 25th July 2010.

    The new facility was opened by the mayor and all attendees enjoyed a sausage sizzle and some wonderful cakes supplied by Ellen.. the new pavilion gives the girls teams and our SSF a  place to call home. We are looking forward to finally utilising the new venue.

    Girls and Women Required

    The club would like to seek the support of all club members in promoting and developing the girls’ program at Richmond.

    Girls’ soccer is one of the fastest growing participation sports in Australia, no doubt in part due to the international success of the Matilda’s, but also due to soccer’s attraction as an alternative to traditional girls’ sports such as netball and hockey, and the limited pathways for girls in Australian Rules football and other male oriented sports.

    Many of you may or may not be aware that for a number of years Richmond has fielded a number of successful girls’ teams.  In 2011 Richmond fielded teams in the following age groups:

    Under 8/9 (SSF);

    • Under 12;
    • Under 14; and
    • Under 18

    Each team competes in the highest grade in their region, and in 2011 girls from the club have been represented in the Central City Zone team, the State Training squad, and the State Futsal team.  All teams have qualified coaches.

    The club coaches and administrators are deeply committed to developing the strength and depth of the girls’ program at Richmond.  At this stage, the club hopes to field the following teams in 2012:

    • Under 8/9 (small sided fixture) side;
    • Under 10/11 (small sided fixture) side;
    • Under 12;
    • Under 14;
    • Under 16; and
    • Open Women’s (17+).

    To meet our goals, we need to continue to recruit new players (whether experienced or new players) at every age group.  Accordingly, we request that all club members (including male players and their family members) actively promote and encourage their daughters, sisters, other family members, neighbors and friends to come and try soccer on a “no obligation” basis.

    Training for the 2012 season will start in early February.  Also, girls are more than welcome to participate in the club’s academy program in Term 4 (see club website for details).

    The coaches, managers and players of the girls’ teams thank all club members and associates for their assistance and support.

    If you have any queries about the program, please contact us by email Girls soccer

     Mick Gayfer Girls under 12 coach

    Before joining Richmond 4 years ago Michael (Mick) Gayfer’s only soccer experience was playing an occasional social game and watching the Socceroos play. That has not stopped him from bringing a fresh perspective to junior coaching and in so doing becoming a popular and sought after coach. Understandably his time as an AFL Collingwood footballer and 1990 premiership player has contributed to his growing reputation at Richmond.

    He is both professional and passionate about his coaching which is best described as positive and encouraging in style and rates his greatest achievement to date as “seeing the development & improvement of the girls I have coached during the last 3 years.” With such a positive attitude it may not be long till Mick helps his team to a premiership of its own!
